Advisory Board on Cross-Border Healthcare begins 3-year term

The first Advisory Board on Cross-Border Healthcare has been appointed. It will serve a three-year term from 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2020. The Advisory Board is chaired by Pävi Sillanaukee, and the deputy chair is Kirsi Varhila, both of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.
The Advisory Board is charged with monitoring the application of the legislation on cross-border healthcare, making proposals and initiatives for legislative development, and managing other issues related to the application of the Act on Cross-Border Healthcare and more broadly cross-border healthcare. It also has a key role in evaluating the effects that applying the legislation on cross-border healthcare will have.
Communication and exchange of information in the area of cross-border healthcare is handled by the Contact Point for Cross-Border Healthcare, which operates in association with the Finnish Social Insurance Institution Kela. Each member state of the European Union has a national contact point for cross-border healthcare.
